Big in Japan 2, page 14 pencils

This is the next page in Big in Japan issue 2. King Kong is holding Sue Richards in his hand while he battles Ben Grimm who is controlling the ropes inside the huge robot. The buildings in this picture look like toys, or like the buldings inside a video game. Here again this is territory with which I am unfamiliar, but I know there is a video game where monsters eat buildings. These buildings and this whole image brings to mind that look. This was no accident. Around the same time as he was working on this, Seth drew a poster for an exhibition of artwork based on video games, and his poster had a look very similar to this picture.

I get a headache just thinking of all the time and patience it takes to line up and rule out all the perfect lines for the symmetry of the buildings. Not too mention the perspective!

Another Pure Seth moment with the close-ups within the large panel with ‘you are here’ type direction. Amazing.

The monsters destroying buildings game was called Rampage.

Now you just *know* I’m going to ask if you have an image from the video game poster!

Thanks Vicki!

Yes, I was thinking that I should post a picture of that poster. I don't have a photo or scan of it though, and right now all the posters are still with the folks at Secret Headquarters. When I get them back I'll take a photo and put it up.
I agree with you about the headache of doing all that perspective. Amazing, isn't it?
What it means is that he made decisions about what to include and what to exclude entirely based on what he thought should be in the picture, NOT on what he wanted to spend time drawing.
