On July 22, Seth's birthday, we are having a birthday party for him at the Coronado Library. We will celebrate his life, the exhibiton of his work at the library, and his artwork in general. The party is from 7 to 9 PM in the Winn Room of the library. All are invited.
July 22 is a Tuesday, the day before people start coming to Comic Con. So anyone who can come to town a day early, come on down! We want to see you!

That photo was taken on my first trip to Nagoya to visit Seth and meet Hisako. The giant stag beetle is in front of a shop that sells the creatures, living and dead. They are sometimes kept as pets, and quite beloved in Japan. Sometime after this picture was taken, the shop moved that giant beetle to the wall above the shop, so such a picture is not possible anymore. I guess the wear and tear of traffic was causing some damage. But I am glad to have this picture.
Actually it's a rhinoceros beetle. The name in Japanese is Kabuto-mushi: Helmet beetle.
