Ff/Iron Man: Big in Japan 1 page 13

This is another blurb from the library exhibition.

In his letter about this page, Seth notes that “ushi” is the Japanese word for cow, and “fugu” is a type of fish that fills up with air to become large and round. So he has combined the two words into the name of the cow-fish creatures that are breaking out of the aquarium: “fugushi”. He says that in Japanese they often combine words in this way when they need to describe a concept they didn’t have a word for.
Seth took great pleasure in combining characteristics in weird ways to come up with amusing monsters. Even at their most horrific his monsters almost always have a humorous edge. The fugushi running on their two long legs with the webbed feet look like people in monster suits with swimfins on their feet.
